This one carried me through multiple particularly trying times.

What if the most radical act of sovereignty you could perform today fits on a nightstand?

We talk a lot about power as something internal. Untouchable. Separate from the physical world. And in one sense, that's true - your authority doesn't live in your décor.

But it is reflected in what you've decided to treat as sacred.

Your altar is not a corner you tidy when guests are coming. It is not a Pinterest board made physical. It is a place you have set aside specifically, intentionally, for you. A place where your own existence is treated as worthy of daily devotion. Where you become your own devotee.

Most women have never created one. Not because they haven't thought about it - but because somewhere, quietly, they absorbed the belief that they hadn't yet earned the right to take up that kind of space.

Take a moment before you scroll past this.

Whether it's an entire room, a dedicated table, your nightstand, or a single page in your journal - every woman benefits from a space that belongs entirely to her. Not to her role as mother, partner, daughter, professional. To her. A place where she remembers that she is her own safe space. Her own authority.

This is not about aesthetics for aesthetics' sake, though beauty matters more than we're taught to admit. It's about intention. A single object placed with meaning - a flower, a stone, a candle you light only for yourself - carries more power than a room full of things that simply accumulated there.

Your altar exists because you deserve moments each day where you return to yourself on purpose. Where the frequency shifts. Where you're not producing, performing, or caretaking - you're simply remembering who you are when no one needs anything from you.

I think of the women who tell me they'll create a space like this once things settle. Once the move is finished, once the schedule clears, once life feels stable enough to deserve it. But this is exactly backwards. Your altar is not the reward for having arrived somewhere. It is one of the ways you arrive.

There have been times in my life when my altar was my only anchor. A grounding space where I was reminded of my power - where I could get still enough to see the flame of my divinity when all that surrounded me was darkness. It's where I came to remember, over and over again, that I was never as lost as circumstances suggested. Although its appearance has shifted throughout the years, it has carried me through countless rebirths and transformations.

What does it mean that most of us will spend money, time, and devotion on everyone else's spaces - our children's rooms, our partner's comfort, our client's experience - before we spend a single ounce of that same devotion on the corner that is entirely, unapologetically ours?

Becoming your own deity is not only an internal movement. There are also very literal, physical expressions of it. Creating an altar dedicated to you. Determining your own sacred days. Choosing your own symbolism. Deciding what your offerings are. Writing your own sacred text.

This reality is yours. Forget everything you think you should be doing and create your own rules.

Start small if you need to. One object. One surface. One place that holds nothing but what you've chosen on purpose.

Not for anyone else to see.

For you to remember.

—

I'm Olivia Grant, creator of She Is The Religion - a 52-page devotional initiation for women reclaiming their sovereignty and choosing themselves on purpose. And I feel like a lot of the rage arising is hugely misdirected. We talk about women being the root, the source of creation, the origin. Yet while, for some, this simply serves as a huge ego boost and seeming permission to shit on men, it actually highlights - exposes, even - something far more confronting. If women are the source, then we must also be willing to examine how we have participated in our own disempowerment.

Take a moment before you close the app.

A woman cannot step into her power if she refuses to take radical responsibility for herself and her life - no exceptions. This means we have to take full accountability for the ways we’ve allowed our power to be stripped from us, outsourced, abandoned, or forgotten. Of course, this is a hard pill for many to swallow. But there is no true embodiment of your inner power if you refuse to do so.

Recently, I asked a question on Threads: *What do you think is the biggest threat to feminine sovereignty today?* And many women immediately answered, “patriarchy” or “men.” Again, this is understandable. But what if the real threat is women’s refusal to accept and awaken to their power?

Now, I do want to say that shifting where we place blame has nothing to do with holding people accountable for their contributions to the downfall of the world. It’s about highlighting what is necessary for forward movement. Women have very, very real reasons to be angry at men right now, and there are absolutely individuals, institutions, and systems that should be held accountable for the harm they have caused. But we must also be honest about our own participation and what it actually takes for our realities to change. Accountability and self-responsibility are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they are both required.

As women, we have to dig deeper for our own sakes. Continuing to separate ourselves from what we claim to be the source of is hugely contradictory and worthy of examination.

And perhaps even more importantly, patriarchy is not synonymous with men. Patriarchal systems have undoubtedly harmed women, but they have also stunted men in their evolution. They have disconnected men from their emotional depth, their intuition, their relational intelligence, and many aspects of their humanity. Patriarchy is not men. It is a system. A structure. A distortion. Many men are suffering under it too, which is precisely why reducing the conversation to “men versus women” misses the point entirely.

Subscribe now

We hold immense power, which means we need to awaken to our inner authority and act on it - even when it’s scary. Even when it feels like we’re alone. Even when uncertainty is thick and painfully uncomfortable. Being offended by the idea of taking responsibility for having given away your power does not change the fact that you’re the only one who can retrieve it.

I invite you to ask yourself: Why would a system designed to diminish everything sacred - and whose survival depends upon the subjugation of women - suddenly hand over power?

You wouldn’t talk a toddler out of doing something dangerous when they’re adamant about achieving a goal that, in their little toddler brain, seems perfectly reasonable. You wouldn’t stand there reasoning with the two-year-old who wants to eat a bar of soap, pleading with them while they take huge bites out of it. No. As the parent, you assume complete control of the situation and remove the soap from their hands - even with the inevitable meltdown. And you do this not only because they obviously don’t know any better, but because it is also so obviously within your power. You don’t stop to wonder whether you have the authority to intervene. You don’t debate whether you’re allowed. You simply act, because it’s urgent.

Share

The patriarchy is a toddler that has been allowed to run rampant for far too long. And the soap is our power. The soap itself isn’t innately dangerous - in fact it can be very beneficial to our cleanliness. The danger lies in the way it is being used. And instead of standing firm in the face of its kicking and screaming handler, many women have rendered themselves powerless by forgetting who they are.

There is no reasoning with patriarchy. The system - harming both women and men alike - is designed in a particular way, but it is women reclaiming their inner authority, not asking for power but taking it back, that causes the system to weaken. Women being asleep is what allows it to thrive. Women waking up is what will cause it to crumble. Which also means that searching for somewhere external to place blame becomes largely irrelevant - an incredible waste of energy.

Everybody benefits when the feminine is honoured. A feminine awakening is not patriarchy in reverse. It is not female domination. It is not revenge. It is wholeness restored within all beings.

Can harmony and feminine power be restored? Yes. But the shift must be initiated from the inside out. The moment women stop waiting for permission, stop outsourcing authority, and remember the power that has always been theirs, the restoration begins.

I’m Olivia Grant, creator of She Is The Religion - a consciousness-expanding ecosystem devoted to feminine sovereignty, self-deification, beauty, power, and the remembrance of the woman within. 🌹

The feminine isn’t awakening quietly. She is demanding to be seen. Demanding to be heard. And the women hearing the call are being asked to show up more audaciously and boldly than they ever have before. They are being called to fully acknowledge that they are the deity they have been searching for all along.

With this realisation comes immense responsibility, because it forces a woman to confront the fact that she has been the ultimate creator within her reality all along. It illuminates the uncomfortable truth that anything unfavourable she repeatedly tolerated was, at some level, a choice. Not always a conscious one, but a choice nonetheless.

In this current era, it is no longer enough for a woman to simply become “empowered” or decide that she “deserves more.” It is imperative that she awakens to her role as the deity of her own reality. It is imperative that she elevates into an energy that commands respect - and that begins by exalting herself at the highest level.

Reading these words will be deeply uncomfortable for many women. And that discomfort is the result of centuries of conditioning that tells us we must be palatable, submissive, and humble. Systems of indoctrination that teach us that abandoning ourselves is holy. Systems that tell us our inner worlds and innate guidance systems are not to be trusted. That we should accept crumbs and feel grateful for what is standard.

So if this is you, I invite you to lean into that discomfort. Sit with it. Address whatever rises to the surface and consciously choose a new narrative for yourself.

Shrinking in the face of your magnificence is not it.

Let’s look at the other side of this.

Within patriarchal systems, men have often been conditioned to believe that they are the ultimate authority. Even many religious traditions collectively refer to God as “He” or “Him” - something that the majority have accepted without question for generations.

This is one of the reasons I consistently speak about the impact of assigning ultimate authority a male identity. Whether intentional or not, it embeds itself into the collective psyche and reinforces a message many systems already perpetuate: that woman is secondary.

The women I’m speaking of are women who have openly expressed concern about the harmful intentions behind certain religious systems, the inconsistencies within them, and the misogynistic threads woven throughout them that diminish women. They have openly spoken about the deep and intense control these systems seek to have over them, the lack of agency within them, and so much more.

She Is The Religion is a reader-supported publication. To preface this, I am typically a woman who is extremely unphased by the choices of others. I have quite a grounded grasp of the nuances of the human condition, both through a unique inbuilt understanding and through personal experience. So I definitely had to take a moment - or a few - to sit with myself and question the inner destabilisation I felt while witnessing a woman I deemed to be in her power essentially begin walking down a path of giving it all away.

And I also find it important to continuously make this distinction: I am not “anti-religion.” I am for women awakening to their power, inner authority, and sovereignty. Anything that directly sabotages or jeopardises that has to be addressed. No exceptions.

On the surface, my discomfort makes sense. My life’s work is, and always has been, about helping women awaken to their power and embody their inner authority. But I have been doing this work for a long time, and there isn’t much that shakes me. As a woman who spends consistent time in my inner world, allowing what needs to rise to come forward, I eventually realised the exact source of my discomfort.

In this era of truth, knowledge, and awakening, hordes of women are seeing the cracks in the systems they were once part of. They are boldly deconstructing and truly sitting with the reality of what it means to have self-agency and autonomy. They are awakening to the consequences of outsourcing their power.

But with this awakening comes another realisation: blame, accountability, and responsibility cannot be outsourced either.

For many women, this truth feels unbearable because it means having to actually face yourself. Your deep, dark parts. Your shadows. Your wounds. Your contradictions. And not only face them, but own and integrate them.

For many women, their spiritual journeys were never truly about freedom, sovereignty, and self-ownership. It was still about seeking external validation - just in a different form. Which is why, in a time like now, when things are getting very real and we are being called to actually embody and act upon our inner work, many are choosing to return to the systems they once denounced. Because certainty feels safer than standing solidly within your own inner authority.

The era we are currently in - where consciousness is shifting and expanding in gigantic leaps, bringing instability and transformation into the physical world - is calling everyone to make a choice. Where you could once sustain your life while pretending, self-abandoning, or turning a blind eye, it simply is not possible anymore.

And for women who refuse to fully face themselves, re-entering a pre-designed system where everything appears more certain, more structured, and more “safe” feels like the easier option. In essence, it is a conscious decision to hand their power back over.

That exhale many women feel when they reorient themselves into an organised system and away from spiritual sovereignty is not always freedom. Often, it is temporary relief. Relief from the self-work they once committed to that eventually became too confronting to continue. Relief from having to face the deepest parts of themselves that were beginning to rise to the surface. Little do they know, they were standing at the brink of their power. At the edge of monumental transformation.

Expansion can feel unbearable when you are standing at the threshold of rebirth. But this fire is not designed to destroy you. It is refining you. It is a phoenix moment.

You see, many women - including women with large platforms and audiences - were only ever riding the edge of their power and inner authority. Not fully in it, but not fully out of it either. But now, a choice has to be made. And while many women will take the leap into the sovereign unknown, many others will run in the opposite direction, back towards systems where accountability can once again be surrendered in exchange for external certainty, perceived safety, and community.

But there is no blueprint for this next era. External safety is an illusion. You already have everything you need within you. And no matter where you run, eventually life will place you right at the feet of the very thing you were trying to avoid: yourself.

Everything is shifting. Women are being called to birth change. And the women who are here to create civilisation-scale transformation cannot afford to outsource their power. They have chosen the path of self-agency. The path of becoming acquainted with the unknown. The path of trusting themselves deeply enough to walk through the darkness guided only by their own inner light.

I think this is what feels so shocking to the system - not just for me, but for many women courageously walking this path. But perhaps it is also an invitation. An invitation to double down on our self-trust and to audit the places where we still seek external validation and permission.

You have to learn to validate yourself. The aligned community will come. The affirming relationships will come. But they cannot become the reason you trust yourself, love yourself, or feel powerful. Otherwise, your foundation will always remain vulnerable to collapse. True sovereignty requires that the foundation comes from within. That is how you build something untouchable.

It is also important for women to understand their role within creation itself. So many women fear loneliness, when that fear is, in many ways, a contradiction. You are the source of creation. You are life-giving. You are generative by nature. You cannot and will never truly be alone.

I’m Olivia Grant, creator of She Is The Religion - a consciousness-expanding ecosystem devoted to feminine sovereignty, self-deification, beauty, power, and the remembrance of the woman within. This is because, while framed as a personal choice - especially in modern times - religion is very much political. It permeates almost every aspect of society. So many parts of the way the world is designed, and the rules we collectively follow, are built upon foundations rooted in religion, even when we don’t realise it. And so, to take this on publicly as an industry can essentially feel like throwing yourself out to the wolves.

We’re in times where there is so much conversation around women, agency, and sovereignty. So many women are waking up to the fact that they have more choices than they have been led to believe, and they are also exploring what it means to take full responsibility for their lives. This is happening for women from all walks of life, all backgrounds, and all faiths - but what many haven’t anticipated is that once you embark on a journey of questioning, some uncomfortable truths and questions begin to arise.

“Small” creators are sharing their deconstruction journeys, dissecting religious texts and institutions with a fine-toothed comb, no longer turning a blind eye to discrepancies and inconsistencies. We’re in the age of information - more knowledge is available to us now than ever before, so to remain ignorant is a choice, one that many women make from fear rather than from a place of power. But the elevated way of existing that is calling many women forward right now requires that no stone is left unturned. In essence, fear is no longer an excuse.

I began deconstructing from religion - specifically Christianity - in my mid to late teens. I knew from very early on that something felt “off” about what I was being fed. I always talk about how I’ve felt like I came to earth with this inbuilt compulsion to follow my intuition, even when I was frightened and even when I didn’t yet have the words for what it meant. Situations would arise and I’d come to these deep inner conclusions within myself and literally feel compelled to act on them, regardless of the fears or reservations of my mind. I knew, deeply and internally, what I needed to do - and I did it.

So for me, leaving religion was never about rebellion. In fact, it was one of the first significant instances of me following that deep internal guidance system I’m always referring to.

Like many others who go through the process of deconstructing from religion, I experienced phases. There’s the phase where you claim you “have a different understanding” of the religion, or that you “don’t interpret it the same way” as others, saying things like, “I believe in God, just not in the way you might.” Essentially, you go through this process of not quite wanting to completely denounce your affiliation due to judgement, criticism, and a whole host of external factors.

But there comes a time when your desire to understand yourself and existence more deeply, your desire for truth, and your inner guidance system lead you so far away from these systems of indoctrination that you have no choice but to finally accept and admit to yourself that it simply no longer aligns. Accepting the sentence: “I am not religious.” Or in my case: “I am not a Christian.” This then becomes another journey in and of itself, because you have to get used to boldly owning that truth and declaring it - although your journey ultimately leads you away from those who would have you explain yourself anyway.

My journey has always been about coming home to myself. Removing the layers of conditioning that would have me abandon myself and my truth. It has been about agency. It has been about understanding that I am my own authority. I believe this journey started for me very early on for the purpose of being an example to other women throughout my life. There is a bigger mission at play.

Our current times show us the rate at which women are waking up to this truth, but with this awakening comes a clearing of anything that actively goes against this inner knowing - relationships, situations, systems. Nothing is untouchable. Nothing can escape this rigorous audit. This includes the systems that were ingrained in us from childhood, or the things we have chosen to deem “unquestionable.” Nothing should be unquestionable. Anything that deters you from seeking truth and asking questions, urging you instead to rely on blind faith in whatever is being fed to you externally, is a red flag. The quicker women can grasp this at its core, the quicker they access a different level of internal power.

This is not an attack on religion, but rather a spotlight on the things that hinder many modern women from fully owning their power on the deepest levels. There are women who have seemingly done well at compartmentalising - taking bits and pieces from their inherited faiths and making them work while still claiming the faith as a whole. But for many women who simply cannot turn a blind eye to the misalignment within their inherited belief systems, it becomes a struggle and an inner battle. As a fierce advocate for the awakening of women, something I cannot ignore is the deep misogyny woven throughout many religious institutions. It stands in direct conflict with the idea of an empowered, sovereign woman.

I get it. Challenging and questioning the very things you have built your entire identity around is uncomfortable. It can feel like a painful death. But on the other side of that is true alignment and sovereignty. You finally wake up within this game of life and actually take the reins.

My work as a guiding light for women on their journeys of awakening to their power has taken many forms over the years, but it has led me here: to my She Is The Religion ecosystem - my boldest and most unapologetic body of work yet. Because it’s no longer about simply “empowering women.” It’s about obliterating everything that contributes to concealing the fact that she is the deity she has been searching for all along.

Welcome.

I’m Olivia Grant, creator of She Is The Religion - a consciousness-expanding ecosystem devoted to feminine sovereignty, self-deification, beauty, power, and the remembrance of the woman within.
